Wybutosine or yW, is a nucleoside modification seen in archaeal and eukaryal tRNAPhe at position 37 and it is belongs in the wyeosine family of tricyclic ribonucleosides. Wyosine derivatives are vastly diverse in Archaea and the study of isowyosine is of interest in the proposition of a shared ancestor with a common biosynthetic pathway shared between Archaea and Eukaryotes. Wybutosine has been studied in relation to S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) enzymes, which can cause an array of human diseases due to aberrations in gene encoding and ribonucleosiide modifications.
