Ethyl 2-Acetamido-4-(4-octylphenyl)butanoate is an intermediate in synthesizing N-Acetyl Deshydroxymethyl Fingolimod (A168615). It is an impurity of Fingolimod (F805000) which is a fungal metabolite of the Chinese herb Iscaria sinclarii as well as a structural analogue of Sphingosine. N-Acetyl Deshydroxymethyl Fingolimod is also used as a reactant in the synthesis of benzene derivatives as analogs of naturally occurring immunosuppressants.
