Methyldiazenyl is a product from the thermal decomposition of azomethane; Derived from N-Methyl-N-nitroso Urea (M325815), which is a precursor of Diazomethane. It has a cytotoxicity effect. An intermediate used in the synthesis of N-[2-[2-[2-[Bis(carboxymethyl)amino]-5-(diazoacetyl)phenoxy]ethoxy]-4-methylphenyl]-N-(carboxymethyl)-glycine Tetrapotassium Salt (B416505), which is more stable as dilute aqueous solution since solid form is light sensitive and is susceptible to decomposition. It is used in the photolysis of caged calcium and measurement of calcium concentration in cardiac myocytes.
